What You Need to Know About Botox Parties

Author: Yodle

While Botox parties can be perfectly safe, as long as the administration of Botox is conducted by an experienced doctor in a sterile environment, there are some surprising risks that stem from the environment for the treatment itself.

Botox parties are risky business. No matter how much effort the doctor and host put in to making sure the Botox is administered in a sterile environment, a home is not the ideal place for a medical procedure of this nature. An increased risk of infection at the injection site is a concern. The fact that you'll be in a social setting where others with non-sterile hands may touch your face to look at the results is just one major risk you wouldn't ordinarily encounter at a doctor's office.

Additionally, many doctors frown on Botox parties simply because there is no standard way to monitor the procedure or respond should an emergency arise; in rare cases people have allergic reactions or the effects of the Botox spread beyond the intended area, which can be dangerous, not just to your appearance, but to your life.

The very nature of a Botox party is also a potential problem. Drinking alcohol thins the blood and weakens the immune system. Receiving Botox at a party of this nature means you may experience more bruising and pain and may also be setting yourself up for a longer healing period. The addition of alcohol to the Botox treatment mix can also amplify side effects like nausea and flu-like symptoms.

Botox parties also raise the issue of informed consent. While some Botox parties are designed so that everyone planning to get treatment must register to do so in advance of the party, others are designed around the idea that guests who are unsure, upon seeing instant results, will also sign up for treatment. Snap medical decisions when a person is drinking raise both safety and ethical issues, and it's important to remember that Botox isn't the right anti-aging solution for everyone.

Finally, while the host or hostess of a Botox party may be familiar with a doctor's experience, as a guest, you may not be. Botox, as well as cosmetic fillers, are increasingly available, and it's possible the person administering Botox at a party may not even be a licensed professional. There have even been reports of fake Botox or tampered Botox being administered in some cases; this is a major risk if you're not familiar with the practitioner.

If you've had Botox before or are personally familiar with the practitioner, a Botox party may be an appropriate treatment option for you. However, for first time patients, those who enjoy alcohol at social events or someone who isn't yet sure if Botox is right for them, Botox parties carry risks that simply aren't worth taking.

What Is Low Blood Pressure?

Author: Leanne James

Elderly people are prone to orthostatic hypotension - temporary low blood pressure and dizziness when they rise suddenly from a reclining or sitting position. Because the ageing sympathetic nervous system does not respond as quickly as it once did to postural changes, blood pools briefly in the lower limbs, reducing blood pressure and consequently blood delivery to the brain. Fainting may occur accompanied by paleness, a weak pulse, and dilated pupils. Making postural changes slowly to give the nervous system time to adjust usually prevents this problem. People taking hypotensive medication may also experience problems.

Chronic hypotension may hint at poor nutrition, because the poorly nourished are often anaemic and have inadequate levels of blood proteins. Because blood viscosity is low, blood pressure is also lower than normal. The blood vessel walls of a person with hypotension are usually very relaxed and possibly flabby or stretched. Few nutrients can reach body tissues from this condition. A light-headedness occurs, the body aches and restless sleep are normal patterns but for a correct assessment use a blood pressure gauge. Other symptoms include fatigue, lack of endurance, sensitivity to heat and cold, development of a rapid pulse on exertion, and little interest in sex. The individual requires more sleep than normal people. Chronic hypotension may warn of Addison's disease (inadequate adrenal cortex function), hypothyroidism, hypoglycaemia, anaemia, or severe tissue wasting.

Acute hypotension is one of the most important signs of circulatory shock and a threat to patients undergoing surgery and those in intensive care units. Can result from severe haemorrhage, burns, gastroenteritis, or dehydration.

Too little Sodium has been purported to cause low blood pressure. Symptoms of Sodium deficiency include leg cramps at night, apathy, low energy, constipation, aching joints and muscles, dizziness and vomiting. Excessive amounts of salt may be excreted because of an undersupply of Vitamin B5. Low blood pressure can occur with a drop in Iron and Magnesium levels in the body, combined with stress. Mild deficiencies of calories, protein, or Vitamins C and B complex (especially B5) have produced low blood pressure.

Adrenal exhaustion is commonly associated with hypotension.

There are 2 parts to the adrenal glands - the cortex and the medulla. The adrenal cortex helps to maintain salt and water balance in the body. The medulla of the adrenal gland produces the hormone epinephrine, also called adrenaline, when the body is under stress. The functioning ability of the adrenal glands is most often impaired due to excessive use of cortisone & steroid treatment for disorders such as arthritis, eczema and asthma. Long term use of cortisone drugs causes the adrenal gland to shrink in size. Adrenal cortical failure is also caused by pituitary disease and tuberculosis. In conditions of stress, they can shrink and become smaller or when they are overworked, they can become 4 times larger. The adrenals can become damaged from continuous stress, which goes beyond their ability to recover from, before the next stressful period comes along.

People with adrenal insufficiency are the type who usually lead fairly stressful lives. If they also worry a lot, are fatigued or if they do not eat well and have low nutritional levels, these poor glands will not be able to cope. The profile of a person with under active adrenals includes a person who is meticulous in their work. They tend to be perfectionists who often drive themselves to exhaustion, since they are unable to relax easily. Sluggishness and a lack of concentration can occur just before lunch when their blood sugar level is low. Severe personality and emotional changes can occur, but in most cases these are reversible. The skin on these people may be thickened and their nails may be brittle. Their blood pressure is usually low or subnormal - 105/60 or less. As well as this, these people can be the ones who get swollen ankles, which are worse in the afternoon and at night, that then return to normal after a good nights sleep. Other symptoms found in 75% of people with adrenal insufficiency include fatigue, nervousness and irritability, feelings of depression, muscle weakness, light headedness and headaches, cravings for salt, PMT, allergies, sparse body hair, poor memory, confused states, feelings of frustration, fears and an intolerance to alcohol.

Your diet is essential to support your adrenal glands and feel better. It is vital that people who suffer from adrenal problems stick to a strict dietary regime that eliminates rapidly absorbed carbohydrates and sugars. This includes sweets, cakes and biscuits and foods made from white flour. Eating these causes a sudden rise in blood sugar, with a subsequent sudden drop. Small meals that are correctly combined, as well as small snacks of nuts (almonds) between meals is advisable. This will help to prevent the drop in the blood sugar levels, which occur two to three hours after eating. A protein deficient diet, with emphasis on simple carbohydrates, especially refined sugars, depletes adrenal function and fails to restore adequate nutritional support to these glands.

In order to keep the adrenal glands functioning properly stress and stimulants such as coffee, tea, and chocolate must be avoided. Continuous and prolonged stress from troubled marriages, bad job conditions, illness or feelings of low esteem or loneliness can be detrimental to the adrenal glands. Because the adrenals must work harder under stressful situations, continuous stress will impair their functioning ability. Poor nutritional habits, smoking, stimulants, alcohol and drug abuse can also contribute to adrenal failure.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine and tobacco, as these substances are highly toxic to the adrenal and other glands. Stay away from fats, fried foods, ham, pork, highly processed foods, soft drinks, sugar, white flour and refined salt. These foods put un-necessary stress on the adrenals. Consume plenty of fresh vegetables - particularly green, leafy ones. Brown rice, legumes, olive and safflower oils, nuts, seeds, wheat germ and whole grains are healthy additions to the diet. Eat deep water fish such as salmon and tuna - at least 3 times a week.

B complex vitamins are essential, but especially Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic acid. 100mg of the B vitamins should be taken twice a day. Mega B or Vitamin B complex 100 are some of the strongest B complex we have found on the market, containing 100mg of most of the B vitamins per capsule.

A correctly combined Magnesium Supplement is an essential addition for anyone who has adrenal problems. Radiance Magnesium Complex is a good choice. The amino acid L- Tyrosine aids adrenal function and helps relieve the excess stress put on these glands.

Vitamin C, plus Bioflavonoids, are essential for a healthy functioning of the adrenals. Between 4,000-10,000mg has been used daily, split into many small does throughout the day. We use the Mega C Powder or Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids powder and put this into a drink bottle and drink this throughout the day.

Adrenal Formula is a herbal combination that provides support to the adrenal gland. It has been designed to tone and strengthen adrenal function. It provides herbs that help the body cope better during stress, improving circulation, soothing irritated tissue and restoring a balanced hormonal output.

We have found that just by improving the diet - to one that is high in protein and lower in carbohydrates, has helped dramatically with adrenal problems. Ideally eat every 2 ½ hours throughout the day. Strive for no less than 20 grams of actual protein per meal. Most packaged foods have a nutritional panel on the back, which will give you an idea of the amount of ACTUAL protein contained in the product. In a "nut shell", protein is anything that comes from an animal (meat, fish, eggs, dairy products) also nuts and seeds and soy products. As an example of portion size, 1 x 85 gram tin of tuna meat, provides approximately 25 grams of actual protein.

According to Chinese medical tradition, low blood pressure is caused by Deficient qi in the circulatory system. Symptoms may be alleviated by Ginseng and Chinese Angelica. Broom is useful for treating low blood pressure, as it tones the arteries. Ginger, Hawthorn, and Rosemary will also be useful as they are stimulating and work to encourage circulation.

Hyssop essential oil has hypertensive properties, making it useful in the treatment of low blood pressure, and has a general tonic effect on circulation. It also helps to relieve fatigue, and increase alertness. Refreshing Rosemary essential oil is a circulation stimulant, excellent for low blood pressure and poor circulation. It also relieves stress related disorders, mental exhaustion, and promotes mental clarity. Regular massage with oils of Black Pepper, Lemon, Sage, or Rosemary which stimulate and warm will be useful.

Homoeopathic treatment would be constitutional, but the following remedies may help if you have a tendency to faint. Veratrum is for fainting caused by anger. Coffea is for fainting brought on by excitement. Ignatia is for fainting caused by an emotional shock or trauma. Aconite is for fainting caused by fright, and characterised by tension and pale, clammy skin. Cocculus, when caused by lack of sleep. Gelsemium, when you feel weak and shaky.

Nutritional and Herbal support for Low Blood Pressure includes:

Multi-Vite - A formulation by Leanne James. One a day Multivitamin, formulated with New Zealanders in mind, taking into account our soil depletion of low Zinc, Boron & Selenium. Using the most absorbable forms of minerals available & 25mg of most B Vitamins.

Adrenal Support - A well combined supplement specifically to support proper adrenal function. Provides herbs that help the body cope better during stress, improving circulation, soothing irritated tissue and restoring a balanced hormonal output.

Multivital - Multivital contains 15 specialised herbs and is a totally herbal multi vitamin. Great tonic. Assists when stressed, helps build stamina, assists in the maintenance of peripheral circulation, acts as a liver tonic and aids digestion.

Womens Iron Complex - A high potency, readily absorbed Iron Complex containing Iron bisglycinate, Vitamin C, Folic acid, Vitamin B12, as well as 100mg of the herbs Dong Quai and Red Raspberry leaf. Contains 27mg of elemental Iron per tablet. Ideal for Iron deficiency & anaemia.

Hawthorn berries - Hawthorn possesses a unique balancing effect on the heart and circulation, thus qualifying it as a reliable support tonic in cardiovascular care. Several recent German studies verify that Hawthorn will increase coronary circulation by dilating coronary vessels and strengthen heart and muscle tissue. It also contains components which have been shown to improve tone and elasticity of arteries and veins making it useful for hypotension.

Bio-Optimised Whey - This product is an excellent source of quality bio-available protein, that has one of the highest absorption ratios (able to be used by the body). Provides a complex array of essential building block amino acids, including BCAA's & L-Glutamine.

Some interesting points on Low Blood Pressure:

Adrenal gland function self test: The normal systolic blood pressure (the higher number of the reading - 120/80) is approximately 10mm higher when you are standing than when you are lying down. To test adrenal function, take and compare two blood pressure readings - one while lying down and one while standing. Rest for 5 minutes in the recumbent position (lying down) before taking the reading. Stand up and immediately take the blood pressure again. If the blood pressure is lower after standing, suspect reduced adrenal gland function. The degree to which the blood pressure drops while standing is often proportionate to the degree of the hypoadrenalism.

The main cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS (also known as ME or Tapanui Flu) appears to be long term stress combined with an inadequate diet and lack of restful sleep. Some doctors believe this disorder is nature's way of enforcing rest when we burn the candle at both ends. It is reported to be notoriously hard to cure quickly, but a combination of a nutritious diet, peaceful lifestyle, and patience seems to work in most cases. Nevertheless, in a 1995 study of 23 sufferers at John Hopkins University it was found that 22 of them had lower than normal blood pressure, they therefore decided to put them on a high salt diet. 19 of the sufferers agreed to do this. The result was that 9 were completely cured and all of the others improved in varying degrees.

Signs and Symptoms of Vaginal Yeast Infection

Author: Kevin Roach

One of the commonest kinds of disease influencing women today is vaginal yeast infection, often referred to as Candidiasis. This infection is caused by yeast-like fungus called Candida Albicans. The fungus itself is found on human skin at normal levels. They sometimes prosper in dark and moist areas. They're considered profitable because they help to keep the natural balance of micro-organisms in our body. The difficulty only occurs when the fungus grows out of proportion. Usually, the abnormal growth of the fungus is caused by the death of a certain bacteria that kills Candida Albicans. This may lead to the rash growth of the fungus, so ensuing in an infection.

It is crucial to understand how to spot the early symptoms of this disease so that medical treatment can be administered right away. If left untreated, the infection may lead to permanent damage, or maybe death. Below are the things to look for in identifying vaginal yeast infections.

The commonest sign of an infection is dreadful itching on the affected area. The itching is felt in the vagina and the surrounding area as well. The vagina and surrounding area will also show a slight red color accompanied by soreness. This could make sexual intercourse a unpleasant experience. Natural Liver Detox

Author: Anthony Burton

Doing a Natural Liver Detox is important for your liver because it is one of the most important organs in your body. It processing 1 liter of blood every minute. That is a lot of blood flowing through and being filtered. Your liver removes toxins from your body and then processes it down to the kidneys to be discarded through the urine. It is also responsible for creating bile which is used to digest food.

A liver detox can help your liver by removing any toxins and unwanted material from you body that it cannot do by itself. If you are going to do a liver detox, it is also a good idea to cleanse all of your other organs like the kidney and colon. Some people have recommended cleansing the colon first, then the kidneys, and lastly do the liver. Some have given this tip because when you are cleansing your liver, all the toxins and unwated stuff is passed through to your kidneys and your colon. To process the increase in toxins and make sure it exits all the way, it is a good idea to have your colon and kidney in good shape to handle the extra load.

A natural liver detox can range in pricing. For the most part, they are all natural cleaners that are made from herbal ingredients. Some will be longer than others in terms of how long it takes for the detox to be complete. But your health is very important, and if you are eating junk food (you know if you are or not), then you really need to cleanse your body.

To kind of relate cleansing your body to something, you could say it is like working on a car. There are a lot of parts that make a car work. You have break fluid, oil, and other things working to make your car run. Now, you know that if you skip on changing your car's oil, problems can rise. Or if you are running your car on low octane gas when it should be running high octane, other problems can happen. Well, it is kind of the same for a body cleanse. As far as cleansing goes, the more important ones are the colon, kidney, and of course the liver detox. So give it a shot and make sure you follow through and finish your Liver Detox.

How Do You Start Your Internal Medicine Career

Author: Lisa

Just like any other medical profession, you have to first complete a 4 year undergraduate course before you are allowed to take the MCAT or the Medical College Admissions Test. The course you decide to take should be in the sciences because as a doctor, you will be dealing with the human body and be familiar with the various chemicals used in the various medicines.

If you do well here, you can enter the medical school of your choice where you have to endure another 4 years to obtain your medical degree.

Since internal medicine is a specialize field, you also have to complete several years of graduate medical education which includes a year of internship and 3 years of residency training.

The only risk when you are starting out in your internal medicine career is to be accused of malpractice which can only happen if you become negligent. So take every hour you spend working as an intern to learn everything there is to know about internal medicine.

By keeping notes, you will easily find the solution when you are once again faced with the same problem.
If you are able to do that, the last thing you have to do is pass the state licensing exam which enables you to do your practice.

Doctors can earn more than $300,000 a year and in order for you to be on top of your game, you need to keep yourself updated with any new developments and the best way to do that will be to attend seminars and other courses whenever these are offered.

After years of working for a hospital, you can choose to continue working for them or start your own practice. If you decide to stay, you can specialize by first going back to school and then becoming a cardiologist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, immunologist, nephrologists, oncologist or rheumatologist.

While you can also do that after going back to school, it won’t be a bad to also do this early so you can have your own clinic, do your own hours and get most of the profit. If capital is a problem, try opening a clinic with other doctors in the same or different specialty.

Data from the AMA or American Medical Association reveals that there is shortage of doctors in internal medicine as many have either retired or moved on to other more prestigious specialties. This means that there are job vacancies in the different healthcare facilities all across the country and all you have to do is make the grade and apply for it.

So now you have an idea of how to start an internal medicine career, ask yourself if this is what you really want to do with your life and then do what you need to achieve it.

The Joys of Internal Medicine Employment

Author: Lisa

When entering into the study of internal medicine you will challenge your mind and body in ways you never anticipated. Expect your training in the field to be complex, rigorous, and incredibly rewarding.
The first step in your journey to becoming a internal medicine practitioner is to obtain an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Under typical circumstance this will take four years. Next you will need to earn your basic entry level medical education. Again, this will generally take four years. The second step in the process will be the most intense and challenging aspect of your student career. This is the time when you will prove your resolve and tenacity to your professors, other medical professionals, and most importantly to yourself. However once you have accomplished this remarkable task you will find a whole new world open to you. As a newly graduated internal medicine practitioner you will next have to decide if you want to specialize in internal medicine, or perhaps a different sub specialty. You can choose to treat the human body as a whole, or you can specialize in a specific organ, system, or disease. This next course of study could potentially take up to six years to complete. This time will be much different than your previous educational experiences. One of the most important differences is your new salary. That's right, you will no longer pay tuition. The medical facility you choose to continue your training at will now be paying you as a regular salaried employee. Additionally, you will be a fully certified internal medicine physician who no longer spends their time in the classroom, but spends their days treating and diagnosing patients. Once you have completed your specialty or sub specialty training you are now free to pursue your new career with hundreds of different employment opportunities. The most common type of employment for a internal medicine practitioner is in a hospital setting. You could even choose to open your very own medical practice.
To date, the medical field represents a huge number of available jobs. Unfortunately there will never be a shortage of sick patients who need your help. Employment growth consistently accounts for job openings, as does the unique need to replace retiring physicians from the baby boomer era. Therefore you have access to a career where new jobs are always being created.
The very core of your employment is the patient. The patient is why you continue to push yourself, and to further your knowledge. You now posses a very powerful and very rare ability. The ability to heal. The ability to change a life. It is now up to you to draw upon your education, and your vast experience to treat, mend, and even prevent any number of medical aliments. No other career can promise the kind of fulfillment as internal medicine.

Internal Medicine

Author: Lisa

Doctors who choose this specialty are concerned with disease management, non surgical treatments and diagnosis, usually of unusual, chronic or very serious diseases. Many people see internists, or internal medicine physicians, as their primary doctors. These doctors are also often called “internists”, “general internists” along with “doctors of internal medicine”

To become an internist one must first graduate medical school and then complete a year or two of internship, which is supervised training usually in a hospital. After an internship is completed one must complete specialized training, known as a residency, for a year in either internal medicine or a sub specialties. There are many subspecialties of internal medicine, 13 to be exact. Just a few of these are cardiology, gastroenterology, infectious disease and pulmonary disease just to name a few. A fellowship is an option following subspecialty residency training. This is one to three more years of study/practice in a specialty. When this is complete a candidate can be certified by either the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. Since medicine is always evolving and changing even after a internal medicine doctor completes all his training he is still required to earn continuing educational credits on a yearly basis in order to renew his license. This isn’t usually formal classroom training but involves seminars and the like.

When an internist is done with his schooling and training they have the option of opening their own private practice, a partnership with other doctors, or working for clinics or hospitals.

Internists care for the whole patient whatever the problem, simple or complex. They also try to instill and understanding of disease prevention and the promotion of good health in their patients.
Internists or Internal Medicine doctors shouldn’t be confused with “general practitioners”, or “family practitioners”. Internists practice is directed solely to adults while family practice doctors can include surgery, obstetrics and pediatrics.

As an example of just what the basics of an internists job would entail, the first thing a internal medicine doctor would do to treat a patient is to take a medical history. This is the patient telling the internist what has happened to them medically in the past and what is happening that brought them to the doctor. The second step is a physical exam where the internist may detect symptoms of disease that the patient may not. Usually at this point the doctor is able to form a list of possible diagnoses. Sometimes multiple disease processes are identified. To narrow down the diagnosis blood tests, x-rays and other tests may be ordered. These results can give the internal medicine doctor a diagnosis or he/she may choose to order further tests such as biopsy for cancer or cultures for specialized infections.

Although this type of career takes quite a bit of training and holds a large amount of responsibility when completed the pay is good. The average salary for a internal medicine practitioner in the United States is $165,234.

Personal Trainer Gains 90 Pounds On Purpose To Connect Better With His Clients

Author: Tim Goodwin

A recent piece on Good Morning America caused real up roar in the fitness industry and has divided opinion amongst its ranks. The peice was about a former underwear model and personal trainer who had the perfect rippling six pack, chiseled jaw line and made a living from having the ultimate body!

He then spent 6 months eating anything and everything, nothing was off-limits, ultimately gaining 90 pounds in weight, losing his pristine body, replacing the six pack and chiseled chin for a pregnant paunch and chubby face.

He did this in an attempt to better understand his obese clients.

His actions have been villified by many of his peers in the industry, claiming he is irresponsible, "lunacy" and not being a "good example" to his clients. My thoughts though are very different, because those same trainers who have attacked him really do not fully appreciate what it takes to coach their overweight clients to a better body. Whilst these trainers may have incredible technical skills and knowledge to teach their clients how to get fit, I question whether they truly understand what makes their clients tick!

The majority of trainers are a strange breed. The perfect guy or girl that runs your local aerobics class, bootcamps or personal training sessions is quite likely to be someone who became a trainer because they like working out, they like gyms and get a kick out of feeling fit and healthy. Making a living out of doing the stuff you like is cool, but they are probably the wrong people to help you lose weight!

I believe most people who need to lose weight hate the thought of working out, are absolutely NOT gym people, and really do not understand the feeling of being fit and healthy! From a psychological standpoint a personal trainer and someone who needs to lose weight are so far apart, the trainer might as well be speaking russian and the client will be speaking french!

So am I saying your coach needs to be someone who used to be fat to understand you better? Well may be...

However, I do know of many great coaches, who have never had weight issues, who really do understand the barriers their clients have to working out or even stepping in to the gym for the first time.

The most important point here is finding someone who can empathise with you and the reasons why you have found training and the gym environment difficult before, as well as the addictive nature of your current eating habits. For someone who is overweight, male or female, gyms are the most unnatural, scariest and intimidating environment... but this is a whole different discussion for another article.

If you can find someone like this to train you, then your chances of success are multiplied, because you'll at least be talking the same language!

Back to our overweight underwear model, my thoughts are that he will become the most important coach in his gym if not his area. The twist of the story is that after 6 weeks of following his own program he has lost just 10 of the 90 pounds.

Mentally he has found it difficult, getting over the addiction to sugar has been tough, but as long as he finds the right path back to his former body shape he will become an incredible asset to his clients, both from a physical and mental standpoint.

So instead of asking for your coaches academic qualifications to see if they are any good, maybe you'll be inclined to review their history a little more and find out if they've been addicted to the gym or addicted to sugar :o)

Internal Medicine Locum Tenens Jobs

Accommodation Safety Measures For Internal Medicine Locums Physicians

Author: Lisa

Locum positions offer benefits like higher pay, better experience and a chance to travel to new destinations. With these benefits, it is easy to let your guard down and overlook your safety in this unknown location. Below are safety measures to take as you travel to your location of work and while on assignment.

Most physicians use staffing agencies to secure positions for them at various hospitals. The agency arranges for their accommodation as well. There are times when you will have to arrange accommodation on your own while on assignment. Recently, there have been reports of physician hotel rooms and homes being robbed. Therefore, you should take time to find a safe place to live.

Before settling for any apartment or suite, inquire about their onsite security. Find out whether there are other entrances to the house apart from the main door. If they exist, ensure they are closed at all times and under controlled access especially at night. Security camera surveillance is important when deciding where to stay. For in depth information about a specific residential area, call the AAA Company. They have records of insecure areas and feedback from clients who lived in the same location.

As you check in at the hotel or apartment, avoid wearing expensive jewellery like gold wrist watches. Thieves mark potential victims by estimating their worth in terms of appearance. Inform the receptionist or check-in staff to keep your room number and information confidential. Insist that your room number should be provided in writing and not announced aloud. Research has shown that thieves sit close to check-in counters stalking potential victims. When offered the key to your room, request to have all the copies available. This way, no one can access your room while you are away.

When choosing a residential area, pick a room with interior hallways or corridors. Such rooms are less accessible to thieves especially if surveillance cameras are in place. When inside, remember to lock the room with the inner secondary locks. There are times when an intruder can try to open the room from the outside. With the inner lock, you will be safe. One main risk internal medicine locum physicians take is inviting strangers to their rooms. Although making friends and inviting them for a drink is fun, you may not know the intentions of such people. Thieves usually find excuses or any reason to gain access to your room.

Whenever someone knocks on your door, verify who they are through the peep hole. Then ask him to identify himself and where he is from. Sometimes, a thief may disguise himself as a housekeeper or part of the staff coming to clean and fix the room. If you are suspicious of a staff member, call the main desk or reception and give them the details of the person. They will confirm his identity.

For you to have a pleasant time during internal medicine locums, keep these basic rules of safety in mind.

All You Need To Know About A Cholesterol Ratio

Author: Henry KH Fong
These days we are all encouraged to make sure that we keep a close eye on our health. This means that we should be aware of the sort of food that we eat and what it could potentially do to our bodies. We also need to make sure that we keep an eye on various health indicators. An example of this is your cholesterol ratio.

There is quite a precise way in which one calculates this ratio. You achieve a number on the cholesterol ration by dividing the level of HDL cholesterol into one's total cholesterol. According to the American Heart Association, you should have a maximum ratio of 5:1 and the best ratio would be considered a 3. 5:1.

The ratio is so important because it is one of the main ways in which your doctor and of course you, the individual can determine whether there is likely to be any heart risk. So you know that if you fall into the window that is regarded as dangerous that you have to take some precautions.

Most doctors would recommend that you check this regularly at least once every six months. If the measurement that you achieve is not what the doctor ordered then they are likely to prescribe a course of treatment. This could either be in the form of medication or it could mean that you will need to change your diet.

Medication might seem like the easier path but at the end of the day you should choose to go for the eating plan is you have the luxury of choice. This will mean that you get to avoid having to take the medication for the rest of your life which is likely to happen if you go down that route.

Make sure that you try to eat healthy foods as a means of hopefully never having to worry about your cholesterol in the first place. There are a variety of foods that cut down cholesterol. Make sure though that you avoid foods such as too much fatty, red meat and also try to avoid butter and ice cream.

While this may start to sound difficult, let's focus on what you can enjoy. You are able to take a good old bite into fish. These have the right fats for you and are strong in omega oils which we all need. Other good foods include walnuts and oat bran. Both of these have the additional benefit of aiding your digestive processes. These foods will help to keep your cholesterol ratio within safe levels.About the Author:

Diabetes Today, the Disturbing Truth

Author: hardeep

Diabetes is the fifth-deadliest disease. Since 1987 the death rate has increased 45 percent. In 2002; diabetes claimed an astonishing 224,092 lives in the United States alone. It is believed that the number was actually higher since most deaths of the elderly had multiple chronic conditions associated with their death including diabetes. Many people do not know that they have diabetes until they develop other life threatening conditions such as, heart disease, high blood pressure, blindness, kidney damage, nervous system damage, dental disease, sexual dysfunction, and a number of other complications. When you have diabetes the above complication are side illnesses, diabetes is this root of all of your medical problems and must be under control for you to recover from the side illnesses period! Being checked by your physician on a regular basis is absolutely necessary for your overall quality of life. If you do not know that you have diabetes, there is no other way of knowing that you have this deadly disease without a check up.

There are several different types of diabetes such as, type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Type 1 is the body's inability to produce insulin, people with type 1 are insulin dependent for the remainder of their lives, and they must also keep close track of their diets. Type 2 is the most common form of diabetes; diabetes is a chronic disease and has no cure. While an estimated 14 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes it is also estimated that close to 6.2 million are unaware that they have this deadly disease. In 2005 1.5 million new cases were diagnosed in people age 20 and above. If this dangerous trend continues it is believed that 1 in 3 Americans will develop diabetes in their lifetime. It is also estimated that 41 million Americans have pre-diabetes today.

Pre-diabetes is a dangerous condition in itself, this is when the glucose level in the blood is not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes yet damage is being done to your internal organs. The body can not handle any unsafe level of sugar or glucose in the blood for any extended period of time.

Diabetes is the body's inability to use the sugar called glucose. Glucose is created when the body breaks down food for energy. The hormone insulin opens up the cells in the body to allow glucose to enter into the cell and be used as fuel. In diabetes the cell never opens up and the glucose flows through the blood stream causing high blood sugar levels. With diabetes the body either dose not make enough insulin or is resistant to its own natural insulin. High blood sugar can lead to very serious complications. Heart disease is the leading cause of premature death in people with diabetes. Diabetes is the major cause of leg and foot amputations in Americans today. Infections are much harder to control in people with diabetes, they are at greater risk of complications and death due to infection. The high risk factors leading to type 2 diabetes is too much body fat and high sugar intake!

Diabetes is on the rise; Americans are eating poorly and are lacking physical activity and this is starting to really show in the children of America.

Free-radicals are very active in a person with diabetes. They attack a number of cells at once because diabetes causes an abnormal immune function due to high glucose levels in the blood and organs. Free-radicals are the reason you see so many different complications or side illnesses in this disease. Free-radicals are molecules or atoms that are missing an electron, free-radicals attack healthy cells trying to steal an electron from them. Chronic inflammation is also a major player with this disease and in the side illnesses. Chronic inflammation is being called the silent killer by doctors and scientists. All of the above diseases need medications to help regulate the disease, but you need to know this, medications cause free-radical damage, and this damage is called side effects. All medications can cause side effects. So eating properly to help your condition is absolutely essential for your life.

Think of free-radicals as a school of piranha, they feed on everything in sight, they are not picky eaters. Free-radicals cause healthy cells to become mutated or deformed and they attack any cell they come in contact with. Now if they do manage to steal an electron then that once healthy cell, in turn, becomes a free-radical doing what was done to it. This is a vicious cycle, basically there is a war going on inside your body. You can not see or feel this war but it is there, and one day it will show its ugly head in the form of a serious disease or illness. You must be on the defensive and feed your body what it needs in order to combat these little piranhas.

Inflammation is a bully, after the free-radicals have done the damage the inflammation is sent by the body to help heal but it is unable to heal mutations and deformities so the deformed or mutated cells begin to feed on the healthy inflammation cells. Now the inflammation cells are deformed or mutated and become chronic inflammation cells, the chronic inflammation cells begin attacking your healthy tissues and cells.
